Josh Sommers, a 2005 graduate of Loudonville High School, never gives up on anything. He joined the United States Army in 2007 as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. On June 14th, 2010 while on a mission in Afghanistan observing a Taliban Training Camp, an enemy rocket fired overhead raining shrapnel on Josh and his brothers. The attack severely injured Josh, leaving him in a coma for eight months.
With intense focus and determination, Josh embraces each day with a sense of gratitude and purpose. Enduring the course of recovery through physical therapy, Josh consistently strives to not only meet but exceed every challenge placed before him with his ultimate goal being to walk again and to run a marathon. It’s with that in mind that Josh diligently pursues a healthy lifestyle, nourishing his mind, body, and spirit with the loving support of his family and hopeful eyes on the future. His energetic spirit is now inspiring others as a wounded warrior who has defied all odds.
Encouraged by his natural love of travel and a sponsorship by Crystal Care Nursing and Rehab Center of Mansfield, Your Choice Home Health Services, Care Companions of Ohio, and Nurse Aide Training Centers of Ohio, Josh will soon be departing for a vacation to the Dominican Republic in January of 2017. Josh is an inspiration, with each breakthrough he aims higher, showing that there are no limits to a determined spirit. We are honored and proud to send Josh, and his mother as his caregiver, on this all expense paid vacation as a way to say thank you and to show how proud we are of Josh and our soldiers that have given so much to protect our Country and our Freedom.
